Research Assistant

The CSJ offers a refreshing approach to tackling poverty, engaging with grassroots charities and giving a voice to the communities that combat the causes and symptoms of deprivation every day. Too often, these organisations do vital work with little recognition, and I was drawn to the CSJ’s ability to put them at the centre of the political debate, ensuring their experience shapes real policy.

I am currently on placement from the University of York, where I study English and Politics. Through my work with York Giving, the University’s charitable fundraising team, I saw the challenges facing the charity sector and the vital role these organisations play in empowering individuals. Charities act not simply as additional support but are often fundamental to a healthy society. As an Assistant Researcher, I am excited to contribute to building the relationships between the CSJ and small charities and to strengthening the influence their experiences can have on policy.
