Gavin Poole, Executive Director Gavin joined the CSJ having completed 23 years of military service in the Royal Air Force where his final appointment was as a Ministerial Private Secretary within the MoD. Gavin has commanded at squadron and wing level in times of peace and during operations and has experience of global operations both on land and at sea. He brings experience in strategic planning, organisational reform, change management and implementation of policy. Academically he holds a BEng(Hons) and an MBA from Cranfield and gained an MA in War Studies from KCL during his year at the Joint Command and Staff College which prepares senior leaders from across 50 countries. |

Chris Bullivant, Projects Director Chris worked for ten years within the voluntary sector prior to joining the CSJ. This included two years at a support housing unit for addicts, care-leavers and the homeless, and eight years working in operations, websites and print and online magazines. In particular, he has worked to mobilise young people to social action projects across the UK and California. Chris read Politics at Queen Mary, University of London, and holds a Masters in Political Sociology from the London School of Economics.
Chris is responsible for operations at the CSJ, the Inner City Challenge MP placement scheme and events. |

Charlotte Pickles, Policy Director, Seconded to the Department for Work and Pensions as an Expert Advisor Charlotte authored the Gangs working group report Dying to Belong and held responsibility for policy work relating to the family, children, young people and education having previously worked as Senior Researcher on the Economic Dependency and Worklessness volume of Breakthrough Britain and written the regional CSJ Breakthrough reports.
Before joining the CSJ Charlotte read Modern History at the University of Oxford before joining the University's Admission's Office as an Access Co-ordinator. As Access Coordinator she worked with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to raise educational attainment and aspirations. |

Robin Millar, Programmes Director A local councillor since 1999, Robin is currently Chairman of Scrutiny, Economic Development Champion, Diversity Champion and responsible for forward planning policy within his authority. Mayor of Newmarket in 2003-4 and member of two sub-regional economic development boards in the Eastern Region, Robin is also a trustee of Relate (2003 - present). As Programme Director, Robin provides a management consultancy for councils wanting to make Breakthrough Britain a reality. |

Juliette Ash, External Affairs Director Juliette was formerly the Alliance and Awards Director at the CSJ and focused on bringing the best of poverty fighting insight to policy development and Westminster. In addition, she worked as researcher on the CSJ children in care report Couldn’t Care Less. Prior to that she worked for several years in the City as a consultant to a number of FTSE 100 companies and was originally trained by Procter and Gamble in Business Development.
In addition, she is a former PPC, a serving member of the Territorial Army and sits on a Next Generation of Leaders advisory panel for the Head of NATO focusing on transformation through effective social justice projects in the post-conflict space. |

Cara Walker, Fundraiser and Profile Manager Cara was the former Head of Media and Communications at the Stockholm Network, before which she worked in consumer public relations in Sydney. After graduating from Bristol University in 2001, Cara was appointed as Iain Duncan Smith's Constituency Secretary. From 2003 – 2005 Cara was Director of the Atlantic Bridge think tank which she left to work for Michael Howard during the 2005 general election, forming part of his campaign team which toured the UK. Cara then worked at the Parliamentary Resources Unit where her research primarily focused on foreign affairs, international development and defence.

Dr Jeffrey Bailey, Chairman in Residence Dr Bailey taught religion and politics at the University of Cambridge, where he remains an Affiliated Lecturer, with particular expertise in the intersection of modern politics and interfaith relations. He has been a consultant with the Cambridge Interfaith Programme, worked on religious conflict with the Clinton Global Initiative's annual conference, and published on these topics in various books and journals, including most recently the Cambridge Review of International Affairs. He previously studied at Duke University in the United States, and spent several years living and working in the inner-city of Washington, DC. |

Dr Samantha Callan, Chairman in Residence Dr Samantha Callan is recognised as a research and policy expert in the field of family relationships and work-life integration. She is an honorary research fellow at Edinburgh University and formerly a research consultant to major UK and international non-governmental organisations aiming to strengthen family life. In this capacity she chaired the Family Breakdown Working Group of the Social Justice Policy Commission and the Family Law Review and Early Years Commission for the Centre for Social Justice. Prior to joining the CSJ full-time she was the Family and Society Policy adviser in the Conservative Policy Unit. |

Christian Guy, Senior Policy Specialist Christian holds responsibility for criminal justice, addictions and elder care policy work at the Centre for Social Justice. He was the senior researcher and co-author of Locked Up Potential, our recent prison reform review. He is also the Assistant Director of Jonathan Aitken’s Westminster Forum. Before joining the Centre for Social Justice he worked as a Community Development Officer for a partnership of local authorities, police, schools and voluntary sector organisations in Surrey, as well as undertaking a 12 month political internship in East London. He read Politics and International Relations at the University of Reading. |

Adele Eastman, Senior Policy Specialist Adele Eastman read Italian at University College London, and then studied law at The College of Law, London. Before joining the CSJ, Adele was a solicitor at Farrer & Co LLP where she qualified in September 2003. Adele specialised in employment and education law (independent sector), was Secretary of the Schools Group and spoke regularly on issues affecting schools. Adele was a Trustee of the Tom ap Rhys Pryce Memorial Trust ("Tom's Trust") for over 4 years, a charity established in memory of her late fiancé who was robbed and killed by two youths in January 2006. Tom's Trust provides educational and vocational training opportunities to disadvantaged children and young people who might not otherwise have access to them, and helps to tackle and prevent the root causes of violent gang culture and violent street crime. Adele is a Governor of Ark Academy in Brent, and sits on the Advisory Panel of the charity IntoUniversity. |

Zoe Briance, CSJ Awards and CSJ Alliance Manager After graduating from Oxford University in 2005, Zoe worked for an arts education charity, and was then appointed online editor of Condé Nast’s Easy Living magazine. She has worked as a journalist and editor in both the UK and the USA. In 2008 she left Condé Nast to launch an initiative working with teenage girls to raise up positive peer role models. She is actively engaged with several youth and elderly projects in the UK, and has spent many months abroad working with disadvantaged communities in Mexico, and more recently in India. |

Ali Crossley, Senior Researcher Ali read Politics at the University of Nottingham. On graduation she joined Shadow Defence Minister, Gerald Howarth's office as a Research Assistant, before moving to the CSJ in September 2008. Ali has supported the CSJ Alliance, the CSJ Awards and has policy expertise on Looked After Children, and is currently Senior Researcher for the CSJ Youth Justice Working Group.
Ali has also spent much time teaching children with disabilities to sail and volunteering in the Rainforest in South America. |

Deven Ghelani, Senior Researcher Deven worked for KPMG, a startup company and a law firm prior to joining the CSJ. He has also taught English in Japan, worked on voluntary initiatives in Tanzania and conducted research into the welfare to work sector. He is on the welfare and government spending team at the CSJ.

Chris Perfect, Policy Researcher
Christopher read Modern History at Christ Church, Oxford. Before coming to the Centre for Social Justice, he gained work experience in various areas, including law, fundraising and the media. He is Policy Researcher on the CSJ Sports Working Group.

Nicola Vimalanathan, Fundraiser Nicola studied Mathematics and Management at King’s College London before qualifying as a chartered accountant. She has subsequently spent time volunteering with charities mentoring young people, working with the homeless in Brighton and a drug rehabilitation programme in Poland. She continues to be a part of community based projects in London. |

Kirsty Turnbull, Office Manager Kirsty is originally from Glasgow and moved to Brighton to study Cultural and Historical Studies at the University of Brighton. Prior to joining the CSJ in November 2009 she worked in administration and recruitment. |

Lucy Maule, Executive Assistant to Executive Director Lucy read History and International Relations at Exeter University where she gained a First Class Honours Degree,with particular focus on Middle Eastern politics and Political Islam. She completed a summer placement at the Centre for Social Justice in 2009 and has returned as EA to the Executive Director. Lucy has worked with social justice organisations which aim to put a stop to human trafficking, and spent four months in South Thailand working with women trapped in prostitution in Phuket's red light district. |

Joseph Colman, CSJ Conference Coordinator Joseph spent his gap year travelling the world visiting different countries including South Africa where he spent time volunteering in Durban's Townships with a charity that offers practical and long lasting aid. He has studied Theology at a college in London. His responsibilities at the CSJ have included administrating the CSJ Alliance and organising CSJ seminars, roundtables, speeches and Roadshows and CSJ staff placements into poverty fighting organisations. As Conference Coordinator, Joseph is organising the CSJ events at the Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat Party Conferences 2010. |

James Mumford, Researcher Before joining the CSJ James was studying for a PhD in ethics at the University of Oxford, having obtained his undergraduate and Master’s degree there. In 2003-4 he was a Henry Fellow at Yale University, studying politics and religion. Whilst a graduate student, James wrote a number of journalistic pieces on addiction, inner-city deprivation and older people in poverty. |

Melanie Mackay, Researcher Melanie has spent time volunteering with children with special needs and doing outreach to women in East London involved in prostitution. She is currently training part time as as a community counselor. She studied Information Technology at the University of Johannesburg and spent the majority of her working career in this field. |
