INNER CITY CHALLENGE, LEEDS
Philip Davies MP (Shipley) spent 12-15 February on an Inner City Challenge in Leeds. He worked with leading homeless charity St George's Crypt in a 4-day placement that set him working to help the homeless and people with long term life controlling habits.
Organised by the Centre for Social Justice, the Inner City Challenge is a 4-day placement for MPs who want to see first hand the impact of breakdown in Britain today and how voluntary groups reverse damage in people's lives.
Philip Davies MP said, "I intend to get as much out of my time at the Crypt as is possible. I'm privileged that the team there are allowing me to have the opportunity to see what goes on in what is obviously an extremely important charity. I'm keen to find out how the charity operates and educate others about charities such as St George's Crypt."

Philip Davies MP "This has been a real eye opener. I wouldn't have missed it for the world."
Gary Stott, of St George's Crypt, said, "I think these kind of initiatives are great. It's important that as many people as possible have their eyes opened to the real-life people who make up the terrifying national statistics."
The Inner City Challenge brings to life the reality of Breakdown Britain and the five pathways to poverty it identifies: family breakdown, addiction, debt, educational failure and economic dependency and worklessness. Mr Davies' placement is from 9am Tuesday 12 - 5pm Friday 15 February 2008 and includes a night shift.
