CSJ CONTINUES SUPPORT OF GLASGOW ESTATE
Iain Duncan Smith has hosted a parliamentary reception for FARE (Family Action in Rogerfield and Easterhouse). FARE is the community project in Easterhouse, a sprawling housing estate in Glasgow’s east-end, that partly inspired Iain Duncan Smith to commit the Conservative Party to championing social justice when he was party leader.FARE provides a range of vital services to Easterhouse residents including youth clubs, children’s holidays, community café and baby-item exchange scheme. It is run by and for local people.
FARE is currently limited by its small and unsuitable premises, a converted tenement block. This is owned by the local housing association and could be reclaimed by them at any point. FARE is currently fundraising for £2 million to build a dedicated premises that will enable it to expand its activities significantly. If FARE is able to raise sufficient funds it will be able to get a new building constructed alongside a new school which is due to built imminently.
Iain Duncan Smith hosted the reception for London-based charitable trusts and philanthropists to hear about FARE’s exciting plans. Among those attending was the local Labour MP David Marshall and Alastair Burt, Conservative MP for North-East Bedfordshire.
